Sure, they were great for digital storage but they had a fair share of headaches with them as well (ie, difficult installation and/or too many steps to save on it).
But I thought I'd give it another try, especially since 2 TB is A LOT of storage space for somebody like me AND I'd heard some pretty good things about the Passport hard drives.
Gotta say, after more than a month of use, I LOVE it! Installation was super speedy (about 3 minutes from start to finish) and saving to it is as easy as copy and paste. Just as things should be in these days of plug 'n plays and apps.
I've used it almost daily since getting it, storing my pictures (350), music (170 songs), videos (2, average of 6 minutes each), and it's not even a blip on the "used space" counter. (I realize my numbers are small, even tiny, but I wanted to provide something for comparison)
Summary: Easy to install and use, lots of storage space for an average user, affordable price - LOVE IT! RECOMMEND IT!

First I connected to my PC laptop just to see how it responds. I didn't install any of the software and it connected just fine. Copying data to and from it is fast, though I didn't run any speed tests.
Then I connected it to my Synology NAS, and it worked just like an extra volume on the NAS.
Finally I re-formatted it again and set it up as a Time Machine repository.
In all cases it worked very well. It took about 9 hours to back-up about 1TB from my Mac through my Synology to the Passport. The speed was about 1GB a minute. So I was very happy.
The reason I wanted this device is its size. I don't have a lot of room and this just sits on top of the NAS and it can barely be seen.
Lastly as a great little backup device, in case of an emergency (e.g. fire), I can just grab it, put it in my pocket and leave with all my data safe.
A lot of space in a little package is such a wonderful thing.

It is smaller than mot of my Seagate USB drives with more storage. The drive cover has a nice pattern and fit so well in my palm!
Yes and it is fast! Spinning up take a lot less time than my other dirves. It took about 5 seconds to ready from plugging it in. i guess the day of high capacity, slow spinned up is over! Access is fast, even I plug it into USB 2.x port on the Mac.
What esle can I say? not much. It is beautiful, fast, reliable and compact form factor. I highly recommend this drive.

I've used external hard drives before - quite some time ago - and wasn't too impressed.
